Allen Dale
Holter
Mar 24, 1949 — Apr 11, 2018
Allen "Big Al" Dale Holter, 69, of Cook, MN, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
Allen was born to Henry and Mary (Hoblak) Holter on March 24, 1949 in Cook, MN.
Allen grew up in attended school in Cook, graduating in 1967. He then attended cosmetology school to become a beautician. This was short lived as he soon started working for CN Railroad, where he worked for 30 years as a trackman until his retirement in 2009. Allen was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a great appreciation for the outdoors which led him to work as a bear guide for over 7 years for Martinson's Guide Service. His passion and skills for deer hunting helped him bag a Boone and Crocket buck back in 1987. Allen had a passion for nature and he would spend time outdoors as often as possible. He enjoyed planting trees of all kinds on his property. Allen enjoyed ice fishing with friends and his daughter, who sometimes skipped school to fish with him. Allen loved to spend time with people and had a fun-loving streak. However, his daughters were his life. Allen was a dedicated father who raised his girls and took them with him wherever he went, even socializing at the VFW, where his daughters have fond memories of playing pool and arcade games. There was nothing Allen wouldn't do to make his girls smile and laugh. He would often sing and dance for them and they would always laugh and smile or get embarrassed if it was in front of others. Allen was also passionate about helping people. He volunteered for many events and was a Lion's member for many years. In his spare time, Allen would puzzle over crosswords and read Louie Lamour Westerns, while eating his favorite candy; root beer barrels and red licorice. Allen's favorite word was "Dad" and his favorite color blue, like the color of his eyes. Allen is remembered as a humble and kind man who could brighten your day with his infectious smile.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Mary Holter; and his brothers: Marvin Holter, Dennis Holter, and James "Ding" Holter.
He is survived by his two loving daughters: Jamie (Seth) Olson and Sarah (Zachary) Yurczyk; grandchildren: Alaina, Addison and Abree Olson; and Rivia and Corbin Yurczyk; brothers and sisters: Harry Holter, Irene Baumgartner, Ethel Barnes, Mary Ann (Bob) Race, Lloyd (Judy) Holter, Nancy (Jim) Rinne.
