Ann L. Katzenberger
Ann L. Katzenberger, 57, Cook passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospice in Duluth.
She was born Ann Louise Whiteside on November 26, 1958 in Cook, the daughter of John "Jack" and Dorothy (Stenbeck) Whiteside. Ann grew up in Cook, where she graduated from high school in 1978. She received her beautician's license from the Virginia Beauty College, then owned and operated Ann's Looking Glass Beauty Shop in Cook. She married Dwayne "Dewey" Katzenberger in Cook on July 12, 1986. They moved to the cities where Dewey's employment took him, and where she continued to work as a beautician. They returned to Cook in 1989 and Ann returned to school and earned her nursing assistant certification. She was a valued and well loved employee at the Cook Nursing Home for 18 years, retiring this past fall. She had a heart of gold, always saw the good in people and accepted everyone with open arms. She touched the lives of many through her work and her love of people.
She enjoyed boating on Lake Vermilion, spending time with family and friends and took delight in hummingbirds.
Ann was talented in knitting and crocheting, making numerous treasured items for her family. She dearly loved her family, and when granddaughters Tia and Annabelle came along, she became a proud doting grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jack (2004) and Dorothy (1994) Whiteside, in addition to her grandparents and many other special relatives.
Ann is survived by her best friend Dewey Katzenberger of Hibbing; 2 sons, John Katzenberger of Hibbing and Kyle Katzenberger of Cook; 2 cherished granddaughters, Tia Katzenberger and Annabelle Tweten; a sister, Loretta (David) Rankila of Cook; two aunts Shirley Reichel of Cook and Dorothy Simensen of Duluth; an uncle Stanley (Mary Leah) Stenbeck of Cook; a brother in law, Glen (Jill) Katzenberger of Hibbing; 2 sisters- in laws, Donna (George) Aune of Hibbing and Sharon (William) Stoddard of Maryland; along with Samantha Phillips, Ethan Olson and Rachael Mulner – all of whom Ann considered her "extra kids.", many special extended family members, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
SERVICES: Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, (Jan. 7th) at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Pastor Liz Cheney will be the officiant. A reception in Ann's honor will be held at the Cook VFW following the service. Burial will be held in the spring at the Cook Community Cemetery.
