Anthony C.
Rutar Jr.
Mar 4, 1932 — Aug 9, 2021
Anthony "A.C." "Aunch" C. Rutar Jr., 89, of Buyck, MN, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021.
Anthony was born on March 4, 1932, to Anthony and Wanda (Deleski) Rutar in Greaney, MN. Anthony attended grade school in Greaney. The family moved to Hibbing where he attended and graduated high school in 1950. Anthony was hardworking and ambitious. He worked for a time for his brother's logging, worked for US Steel as a lab analyst, and then worked for Household Financing, before starting his own business "Rutar Logging" in 1957 in Buyck, MN. During this time, he met and later married Jessie Hoffman on April 28, 1956, at St. Joseph's Catholic in Church, Buyck, MN. They moved to Buyck to run their logging operation and raise a family. Sadly, Jessie passed in 2016.
Anthony was instrumental in starting the Buyck Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for many years. He was also the supervisor for the Town of Portage, and he served on the church council for Holy Cross Catholic Church and St. Josephs' Catholic Church.
Anthony was a straight shooter; you always knew where you stood with him, and he said what he was thinking. He loved to polka dance, play horseshoes, and race stock cars. He enjoyed picking blueberries, gardening, hunting, and fishing. Of all his interests and hobbies, logging was his biggest joy; it was his life.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jessie; grandson JosH Rutar; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Anthony is survived by his three sons: Mark (Mary) Rutar, Gary (Lori) Rutar, and Robert (Yvette) Rutar all of Buyck; grandchildren: Justin (Megan) Rutar; Kelly (Ryan) Karasek; Kristina (Andy) Amys; Melissa (Jeff) Fjelstad; Sarah (Jeremy) Wright; Scotty (Patty Overbye) Rutar; and Ian Leinbach; great-grandchildren: Lyla and Easton Karasek; Gavin, Owen, and Everly Rutar; Keegan, Piper, and Kasen Amys; Maverick Wright; and Addison Fjelstad; sister Margaret Herman; along with many nieces, nephews, and special family.
The family would like to thank Anthony's caretaker Gayle Shoemaker, Carefree staff, and East Range Hospice for their care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021, at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cook, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. To leave an online condolence visit www.mlakerfuneralhome.com
