Barbara Palmer

Barbara Jean Palmer ,67, Gheen passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 6, 2017, with her loving family at her side.

Barb was born on April 30, 1950 in Minneapolis the daughter of Robert and Jeannine (Hartung) Singleton. She attended Ascension School for grades K-8, Franklin Jr. High for 9 ^th grade, then North High School in Minneapolis grades 10-12, graduating in 1968.             Being the second of seven siblings, she began babysitting at a young age, starting her love of children. At the age of 16 she began her working years as a clerk at the Fanny Farmer Candy Store, then at Northwestern Bell as a long distance operator. At the age of 18 ½ she went to Charleston, South Carolina to visit her brother Bob, deciding to stay. While there, she was employed at several places, including waitressing at Lum's Restaurant, as a clerk at Roger Hospital, and as a receptionist at White Hardware store before moving back to Minneapolis in 1973, accepting a job in communications at GTA, (Grain Terminal Association.)

In 1977 she moved "Up North". She worked at Patten's Café as a waitress then as a admission receptionist at the Cook Hospital for 10 ½ years. She took on being a sub driver for several mail routes before circling back to her first love of kids, returning to babysitting for the last 12 ½ years. Her partner Duane also shared her love of  babysitting children, and together they "loved them as their own."  She also loved to dance to all kinds of music.

She is preceded in death by parents; life partner Duane Palmer; one brother Edward Singleton; and a niece, Lisa Justus.

Barb is survived by her son Dominic (Kandance Solin) Palmer of St. Paul and Gheen, brothers: Robert Jr. (Patricia) Singleton of Bemidji, MN, Thomas (Julie) Singleton and  Kenneth( Linda) Singleton both of Mpls., and  Steven (Christie) Singleton of Andover, MN;  sister Mary (Tim Barlow) Singleton of Milaca, MN; and many loved nieces, nephews and daycare kids.

SERVICES: Memorial services will be at 11:00 am Friday, (Aug. 11 ^th ) at Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Visitation will be  6-8 pm Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the funeral home and will continue for one hour prior to the service.  Father Nick Nelson will be the officiant.  A reception in Barb's honor  will be held at St. Mary's social hall after the service.
