Barbara J Paskvan, 84, of Chisholm, MN, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Barb was born in Bismarck, ND, on April 21, 1940 to Jens and Stella (Sather) Haugland.

She graduated from Hazen, ND High School in 1958, and then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where she earned a degree in Home Economics.  She taught Home Economics in Brainerd and International Falls, MN.   While in International Falls, she met her husband Larry Paskvan.  They were married on December 28, 1968.  They later moved to New Haven, CT where she worked as a dietitian assistant at the VA hospital and became interested in the field of dietetics. After moving to Fargo, ND, she attended North Dakota State University and earned a degree in Dietetics.  She worked as dietitian at St John's Hospital in Fargo, ND, before moving to Chisholm, MN in 1977.  Her dietetics career encompassed working as a consultant dietitian at various facilities in the area before becoming the Director of Nutrition Services at the hospital in Hibbing, MN, a position she held for 17 years.  She also worked with Larry to run a catering business through the Elks Club in Virginia, MN from 1980 - 1987.

Barb was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Chisholm, MN, participating in the choir and bell choir.  She also participated and held leadership roles in the local American Association of University Women (AAUW), Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELCA), and the Lutheran Church of Women (LCW) organizations.

Barb had a love of music and enjoyed playing the piano and attending concerts.  She also enjoyed baking and was known for her delicious pies and cookies.  In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with Larry, especially the many cruises they took together to destinations in North America and Europe, and road trips through the midwest and western US.  She also never passed up an opportunity to dine out with family and friends at various restaurants.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jens and Stella Haugland, and her son, Keith Paskvan.

She is survived by her husband, Larry, her daughter, Lesley (Kent) Appleyard, her son, Daryl (Mechelle), her grandchild Drew Appleyard, and her brother Roger Haugland, of Germany.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 11:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church.  A private burial service with family will be held at a later date.
