Obituary

Bertha Julia Porter-Nissinen: July 6, 1937 --- Feb. 9, 2022.

Bertha was born in Todd County, Minnesota, Germania Township to William & Sophie Porter; she is the second child of nine siblings. Bertha married Paul Alfred Nissinen of Sturgeon Jan 16, 1954, a longtime resident of the Alango Township area. She is preceded in death by husband, Paul Nissinen, who passed away Feb. 28th, 1995; two son's Daniel Lee, and Gerald Nissinen; her parents William and Sophie (Olson) Porter; and siblings Elmer, Anthony, Susie, and Marian. Bertha worked at home and with her husband in his farming and logging business and later at the Forestry's SASEP 'Senior Community Service Employment Program. She was also a volunteer, serving meals at the Senior Center in Cook. Bertha attended Ashawa Chapel in Cook for many years. Bertha is remembered for her big hugs, kind smiles, and sparkling eyes. She is survived by one son, David of Sebring, FL; three daughters: Jane (Emile) Newman of Sebring Fl., June Nissinen of Philomath, OR., and Joyce (Peter) Lange of Sturgeon Township; three grandchildren, Erick Lange, Athena Chosa, and Prema Nissinen; two great-grandchildren Layana Wiggins and Kingsley O'Brien, and several siblings, nieces, and nephews.
