Bette Joy
Grano
Jun 10, 1936 — Aug 2, 2025
Bette Joy Grano, 89, of Shoreview, MN, passed away on August 2, 2025. She was born on June 10, 1936, to George and Eva (Johnson) Leander in Cook, MN. Her parents as well as two brothers (Maurice and Wallace) preceded her in passing. She is survived by her spouse, Earl; four sons Jon (Pam), Reid, Gregg (Myriam), and Lynn; brother Byron (Ginny); two sisters Carol Forsline and Rose Schwensen; sister-in-law Ellen Wolf; grandchildren Rebecca, Daniel, Peter, David, and Joseph; and great-grandchildren Brett, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Lydia, Caleb, Isaac, Symphony, Lucy, and Ottovan.
Bette grew up on a "century farm" in Leander, MN, and married J. Earl Grano in September 1954. While residing at their first St. Paul, MN, home, she worked at Farmers Union Grain Terminal Association while Earl worked and attended school. She was an active charter member of Northwest Baptist Church in Fresno during Earl's first teaching job. Her longest residence in Duluth as a homemaker raising four boys included a legacy of involvement at Lakeside Baptist Church and Community Bible Study, and many years of full-time work at Oberg's / Duluth Clinic / Essentia as a pharmacy technician. Ever since 1954, Bette and Earl's "anchor home" has been on Lake Vermilion, which in retirement also served as a much-loved family hub for activities. In recent years, Bette resided in Shoreview as she dealt with various health challenges. Wherever Bette lived, she made numerous friends, while also investing much time and joy maintaining many extended family relationships. She loved to read, sew, cook/bake, spend time with family and friends, travel, pray, and play board games. Most significantly, Bette was characterized by her hospitality and love for others, and her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her life was well lived, and those who knew her best saw beautiful evidence of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) at work throughout her life.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 16, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, Cook, MN, at 11 am, with lunch and interment to follow. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
