Obituary

Betty Jane (Dahlin) Johnson went to join her heavenly family and her Lord on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 9, 2021. She died of natural causes at home 17 days short of her 94 th birthday.

She was born in Cook on May 26, 1927 to Edith (Johnson) and William Dahlin.  She spent her first years in East Little Fork on a dairy farm. In 1935 the family moved to Finlayson where her father had purchased a meat market and ran it until his untimely death in 1938, when Betty was 11 years old.

Edith moved the family back to the East Little Fork homestead. Betty went to high school in Cook, graduating in 1945. She went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co.; Sara Winchell had the switchboard in her home in Cook. She worked there until the Telephone Co. went dial in 1957.

On September 11, 1948 she married Norman Johnson. They raised two children at their home, which Norm built, just outside of Cook.

There was a time between 1957 and 1963 when Betty worked at Nylunds Bakery. She enjoyed that job, learning how to wrap a loaf of sliced bread, when to flip the doughnuts, how to fill the jelly bismarks with just the right amount of jelly and taking a piece of dough and shaping it into a round smooth ball.

In 1963 Betty went to work at the Cook Hospital as a nurse's aid. She retired in 1999, but within a year she was working again as an aid because there was a shortage of help. She finally left that job after over 40 years of service to others.  That was her passion in life – helping, serving and giving of herself for others.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church.

Betty enjoyed nature and animals, especially dogs. She was an avid flower gardener. And when the planting was all done, she enjoyed sitting outside with her cup of coffee and enjoying the beauty around her. During the years they had their lake place on Raps Road, she planted lots of flowers out there also to enjoy.

Betty loved baking. She was known for her "tiny" fancy cookies, especially at Christmastime. She also had a couple nicknames over the years – the "Soap Lady" and the "Hat Lady" for her themed presentations.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years Norm; daughter Patti (Ralph Norrgard); son Tim (Kari); brother Bill (Marti) Dahlin; sisters in law: Beverly Johnson, Marcia Anderson, and Evelyn Johnson; one special granddaughter Jacey Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Rodney; sister Gerry; brothers in law: Cliff Quimby, Gerald Johnson, Bert Anderson and Gilbert Johnson.
