Byron John
Zeman
Sep 1, 1937 — Oct 20, 2021
Byron John Zeman, 84, of Chisholm, MN passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
Byron was born on September 1, 1937 at St. Paul MN; the third son of John and Elizabeth "Betty" (Pembrook) Zeman. He attended Taylor Elementary School in Highwood, then onto Harding High School, graduating in 1956 with his forever friends from Taylor School. While employed at the First National Bank, Byron attended night school at the U of M extension. In the spring of 1959, he took employment at the Northern Pacific Railway in the Freight Traffic Dept. In 1960 Byron joined the Minnesota National Guard, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant when honorably discharged.
In 1961, Byron was joined in marriage to Beverly Ullstrom, and through this marriage they were blessed with three daughters: Brenda, Beth and Benita. In 1992, and after 33 years of service, he retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad as a Marketing Manager in Chicago, Illinois. Upon retirement, he returned to Minnesota, and to the Northwoods where he had a strong family history, to joyfully fill out his days.
He loved to spend time outdoors; going on daily walks, doing yard work and helping and visiting with neighbors. He had an interest in classic cars; meticulously caring for his own and attending local car shows. He spent endless hours in his garage on woodworking and furniture refinishing projects. When the weather forced him to be indoors, he was an avid reader. He will be remembered for his broad smile and joyous laugh, and desire to fill each hour in useful ways.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents: John and Betty; his former wife Beverly; and brothers: Roy and Kenneth.
He is survived by his daughters: Brenda (Sam) Anderson, Beth (Todd) Johnson, and Benita Perry (Arne Carlson); his beloved grandchildren: Christine, Brienna, Jessica, Aaron, Abby and Jack; and great grandchildren: David, Brooklyn and Camden.
