Obituary

Carol L. Tuominen, 78, of Tower, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at the Cook Hospital.
Carol was born in Soudan, on Jan.18, 1937, the daughter of John and Fern (Saari) Johnson. She moved to Tower at 4 years of age, attended the local schools and graduated from Tower-Soudan High School in 1955.
She was united in marriage to James Tuominen on Jan. 5, 1956, in Ely. They made their home in Embarrass, where they resided until moving to Tower in 1960.
Carol worked as a secretary at the Tower Free Clinic for one year and as a secretary for Tower-Soudan High School-ISD708, from 1974 to 1994. She also worked for the North Eastern Minnesota Housing Partnership as a secretary and community liaison for two years; at Parkside Homes in Soudan; Fortune Bay in Tower and Como Oil and Gas in Tower.
Carol enjoyed playing cards, gardening, fishing and was an excellent cook. Her family was the joy of her life.
She was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church of Tower and a past member of AFSME.
Carol is survived by her children, Lynne (Christopher) Steele of Tucson, AZ, Jayne (Thomas) Sundeen of Soudan, James (Wendy) Tuominen of Soudan, Kristy (Ronald) Corey of Soudan and Scott Tuominen of Elko, NV; grandchildren, Rosalyn Steele, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Banovetz, Andrew Sundeen, Elizabeth (Marc Patterson) Sundeen, Tyler Tuominen, Tara (Matthew) Snyder and Shelby (Jason) Semo; great-grandchildren, Brody, Nathan and Eli Patterson, Silas Snyder and Lumi Banovetz; sisters, Fern Pylka of Virginia and Connie ( Matt) Skala of Tower; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friend, Warren Carlson of Tower.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James and grandson, Corey Tuominen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, at St. James Presbyterian Church in Tower, with Pastor Doug Workman officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Tower, at a later date.
