Cecelia A. Vartmann

Cecelia A. Vartmann, 92, Orr, passed away at the Cook Nursing Home on Friday, February 13, 2015.

She was born Cecelia (Sis) Ann Murphy on June 1, 1922, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to John and Cecelia (Zimmer) Murphy. She grew up in St. Paul and Lakeville. She was united in marriage to Walter (Wally) J. Vartmann on January 31, 1951 in St. Paul. After they were married, they lived in St. Paul for many years where they raised their family and owned and operated a family owned vegetable farm. Along with her involvement with the truck farm, Cecelia raised 4 children, and had several part-time jobs outside the home. Wally and Sis moved to Orr in 1968, and were members of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Cecelia was an excellent seamstress and did wonderful knitting and crocheting projects, including sweaters for her family. She also loved to read, bowl, play cards and travel. Grandma was fondly known as grandma M&M by her grandchildren and she was also known for her love of coffee.

In the last years of her life she spent 12 years at the Cook Nursing Home receiving wonderful care. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the nurses and care givers for all the years they have taken care of our mother.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Walter on March 7, 1995; and 4 brothers, John, Robert, Francis and Hugh Murphy.
