Chester T. "Punky" Punkiewicz
Chester Thomas "Punky" Punkiewicz, 91, Crane Lake, Minn., formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away March 16, 2015 in San Diego, CA, with his daughters, Janet and Judy at his side. He was born August 1, 1923.
"Punky" graduated from Moline High School, in Moline, Ill. and attended St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Jean Grace Allen on November 26, 1948 at Hoosick Falls, New York. Punky was employed by Deere and Company, where after the war he began working in the mail room and upon retirement was the Manager of Order Control. He was respected company-wide as an expert in the complex field of export requirements. He retired in 1981 with 33 years of dedicated company service. .
He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Following retirement Punky and his wife Jean moved to their retirement home they built on Bear Island in Crane Lake, Minn. He enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.
Left to cherish Punky's memories are his daughters and sons-in-law, Janet Dove, Judy and Mike Hoagland, all of Crest, CA, Jill and Jerry Crain of Crane Lake, MN; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Jeanne Punkiewicz, James and Holly Punkiewicz, all of Rock Island, IL., Jared and Tammy Punkiewicz of Everett, WA and Carol Punkiewicz of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Grace Allen Punkiewicz; one son, Jeffrey Allen Punkiewicz; and two siblings.
SERVICES: A Celebration of Life service will be held 1:00pm Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Orr. A Gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Father Drew Braun will be the officiant. Music will be provided by MaryBeth Reller. Military Honors will be accorded by the Orr American Legion Post #480 and Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1757. Interment will be in The Forest Home Cemetery of Buyck. A Reception in honor of Punky will be held at the Crane Lake Bar and Grill after the service. Memorials can be made to the Punkiewicz family co/ Janet Dove, 226 Park Blvd., El Cajon, CA 92021.
