Clyde Elias Franklin, 98, of International Falls, MN passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at his home.
Clyde was born to Charles and Adeline (Kavan) Franklin on July 23, 1919 in Linwood, Nebraska. At the age of 4, he and his family moved to Freemont, Nebraska, where he remained until he joined the Army in 1941. He was active in the National Guard.
In April of 1944, he married Marion Mitchell, just before he left to serve his country on "D Day". He also served in the "Battle of the Bulge". He was overseas for over a year. He then returned to his wife and they started their family, settling in Freemont Nebraska. Every summer he would venture north and head into Canada for fishing trips, via the border crossing at International Falls. He loved Rainy Lake so much he purchased lake property on which he built his family a large lake home.
Clyde held several jobs on Rainy Lake. He was known for his notorious knowledge of boat motors and was called "the boat Dr." by several of the resorts on Rainy Lake. Clyde really enjoyed working for Rainy Lake Houseboats. Another of his favorites was to ride his Harley and listen to it rumble.
Clyde is survived by his son-Jerry Franklin; his daughter-Kathy Maddux; grandson- Graham and his wife Sunshine; nephews-Jeff and John Mitchell.
