Clyde Andrew Koskela, former resident of Cook, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2018 with his daughter Jennifer by his side.
Clyde was born on March 9, 1935 in Bessemer Township, Michigan, the only child of Olaf "Ole" and Tyne (Hovila) Koskela. Growing up in "Finntown" (Old Town Virginia), Clyde graduated from Virginia Senior High School and went on to pursue a B.S. degree at St. Cloud Teachers College. Clyde received his Masters from Bemidji State and entered into contract with St. Louis County Schools (ISD 710) as a teacher of Industrial Arts. In 1963, he was united in marriage Jo Ann Marie (Kangas) Koskela. In 1970, Clyde, Jo Ann, and Jennifer made Cook a permanent home and resided on Lake Vermilion.
Clyde worked as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Cook High School until he retired in 1994. Clyde also served as a volunteer with the St. Louis County Rescue Squad and was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook. He was an active member of the Virginia Rifle and Pistol Club and firm supporter of the NRA. Over the years, Clyde enjoyed his time in the summer fishing off the dock, boating, and swimming; hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling during the fall and winter months. Many of his hours were also spent tinkering in the garage.
Clyde is survived by his only child, daughter Jennifer. In addition to his parents, Clyde is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018, at 11:00AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook, MN. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM. Pastor Peter Rosenkvist will be the officiant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest or directly to the family.
