Diana Woitel
Message: Diana (Dina) Mordini Woitel An angel came for Dina Woitel early in the morning of Thursday, September 1, 2016. She passed away peacefully, in Heritage Manor in Chisholm. Dina was 95.
She was born in Virginia, MN on Oct. 23, 1920 to Ettore and Ada (Giomi) Mordini. She spent her early years on their homesteaded farm on the Nett Lake reservation. She attended Silverdale and Harrigan schools, and graduated from Littlefork High School in 1938. In December 1942 Dina married army corporal Matt Woitel. She did her part for the war effort too, working in defense plants till the end of the war. Following WWII, the couple returned to the Iron Range, and for over sixty years she made her home in Hibbing's Maple Hill neighborhood. She loved the land. Living there, Dina's gardening skills won blue ribbons for her at the St. Louis County Fair and made her cooking extraordinary. She was also a member of St. Leo's church. Late in life she challenged herself again; she wrote her memoirs for her grandchildren.
Dina was preceded in death by her parents, husband Matt (1997), brothers Gino and Robert, and sister Jean Karpik.
She leaves behind daughters Pat (John) Dolentz (Goose Creek, SC), Barb (Bill) Arel (Roxboro, NC), Gail (Dave) Johnson (Duluth, MN); godson Richard (Wanda) Karpik (Grand Rapids, MN); grandchildren Dina Virnig, Josh (Jen) Arel, Hannah (Rob) Barnhorn, Rebekah (Ben) Kennedy; great-grandchildren Dmitri Virnig, Lily Arel, Will Barnhorn, and Emma & Evelyn Kennedy; and many other relatives and friends. Dina's family would like to thank the caring, gentle staffs of Heritage Manor and Range Fairview Hospice. In accordance with her wishes there will be no services; private interment at a later date. Arrangements through Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Memorials preferred to Hibbing's Maple Hill Park, where a family bench already rests.
