Obituary

Donald A. Menton, 88, of Aurora passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Chris Jensen Rehabilitation and Care Center in Duluth.

Donald was born on March 24, 1928 in Cohasset, MN the ninth child out of ten of Ernest and Grace (Root) Menton.

He grew up in Grand Rapids area, then spent his early adult years in the Merchant Marines, in the South Pacific during World War II, and was honorably discharged from the United States Coast Guard.  He then joined the Army, serving in the occupation of Japan. He married Marjorie Custer/Seinola on June 16, 1951, in Bear River.  The couple lived in several areas, including Denver and Seattle, and range area cities, and have resided in Aurora since the late 1950's.

Donald's working years were spent doing a variety of jobs in the Iron Orr industry, first in Ely in the underground mines then to LTV mines where he retired in 1990 after many years of dedicated service.  His millwright skills kept him very  busy along with the musical life that he loved. After retirement he purchased a huge sailboat, which  he enjoyed. Donald was a hard worker and made a good life for his family. He was  gifted with musical ability and entertained people from all walks of life. He will be remembered for all of the work he accomplished along with his many talents and building skills.   " Donald Menton---- the one and only….loved by family and friends."

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 3 sons: David, Mark and Michael Menton.; and siblings: Elmer, Helen, Marieta, Elsie and Harold.

He is survived by his wife of  65 years Marjorie Menton of Aurora; 2 daughters Terri (Mark) Persson of Arlington, WI and Gail (Dennis) Heruth of Pelican Rapids, MN; 4 sisters: Marcella (Vern) Pederson of Deer Creek, MN, Verla Aultman of Grand Rapids, MN, Jeanie (Richard) Reckenger of Princeton, MN and Carol Howg of Grand Rapids, MN;  12 Grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends..

SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Rev. Jim Williams will be the officiant. Military Honors will be accorded by the honor guards of the Cook VFW post #1757 and the Orr American Legion Post #480.  Burial will be held at a later date in the Alango Cemetery.  A reception in Donald's honor will be held at the Cook VFW immediately after the service. Arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
