Dorene Elizabeth
Storm
Oct 27, 1950 — Jul 29, 2020
Dorene E. Storm, 69, of Cook passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2020.
She was born in Minneapolis on October 27, 1950 as the only child of Walter R. Lange and Vera M. Lange (Jesse), who both preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of more than 52 years, John A. Storm, and their three children, John R. Storm, Brian Storm (Elodie Mailliet Storm), and Jennifer Storm (Lawrence Paul). She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Jordan, Nathan, Eva, and Jasper.
She graduated from Brooklyn Center High School in 1968 and married her high school sweetheart. The couple started their family and lived in Champlin for several years before relocating to suburban Detroit for a career opportunity.
Dorene truly enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. She especially loved to share in the success and happiness of her children. She was incredibly devoted to their care, development, and enjoyment of life, hosting friends for sleepovers and driving all three children to countless sports activities.
After their kids were grown, Dorene and John returned to Minnesota in 2004, living the dream in a home on Lake Vermilion.
She enjoyed reading good books, collecting lovely things, and talking with her girlfriends, many of whom have been close friends since childhood. When she was taking care of simpler tasks, she was often overheard humming, as if she was bopping along to a soundtrack of her life. She loved to travel, from a quick, local drive to a trip to New York City. She was so friendly and outgoing that she never met a stranger, only a new friend.
Dorene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a lifelong Presbyterian who later in life was comforted by the thought of reconnecting with family and friends in heaven.
Dorene would have wanted us to remember all of the times we spent laughing, and then tell our family and friends that we will always love them.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a future date. For those who would like to express condolences and share memories, please visit

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, to help find cures, save children, and support families.
