Edward J. Vaughn
Edward James Vaughn, 65, of Cook passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
Ed was born on February 6, 1951 in Hibbing, the son of Edward and Margaret (Goerdt) Vaughn. He grew up in Sturgeon Township and graduated from the Cook High School in 1969. He married Judy Aune on August 25, 1973 in Cook where they settled and raised their family. They are members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook. Ed worked as a millwright for U.S. Steel-Minntac, retiring in August of 2010 after 37 years of dedicated service. He was a proud member of United Steel Workers Local 1938. After retirement he volunteered his time to assist at the Cook Area Food Shelf. Ed's passion was golfing, he also was an avid hunter and liked fishing, all with his buddies. His lasting legacy will be found in his family, his grandchildren lovingly recall him "as one of the best Grandpa's in the world."
Ed was the consummate North Woods Grizzlies boys and girls sports fan, and will fondly be remembered as the their biggest popcorn consumer at the concession stand.
He will be dearly missed by family and all who came to know him.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 1 brother Brion Vaughn; 1 sister Kathryn Willenborg; and father- in-law, Earl Aune.
Ed is survived by his wife of 43 years Judy; 2 daughters, Crystal (Jess) Scofield and Jennifer (Garrett) Corrow; 5 cherished grandchildren, Blake, Karah, Kaius, Joby, and Tessa; 2 brothers, Craig (Deborah) Vaughn and John (Babette) Vaughn; 4 sisters, Tarsia Kalway, Judith (Ervin) Kruse, Mary (Donald) Anderson and Linda Grayson; mother-in-law Katie Aune; and many other special family and friends.
SERVICES: Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook. A gathering of family and friends will be from 12:30 until the hour of service. Rev. Bruce Hannem will be the officiant with Rev. Jared Bangs delivering the eulogy. A reception in Ed's honor will follow in the church social hall. Interment will be at a later date in the Cook Community Cemetery. Arrangements are with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
