Obituary

Eero Ruuska

Eero A. "Eric" Ruuska, 80, Angora, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Cook Community Hospital, with his family at his side.

Eero was born on May 18, 1936 at Haapajarvi, Finland the son of Vaino and Hilja (Jussila) Ruuska. He moved to the United States with his family at the age of 16, settling in Mt. Iron. He married Geraldine "Gerry" Anderson on February 15, 1958 in Virginia. Eric was a mechanic for John Anderson Chevrolet in Mt. Iron, retiring after 44 years of dedicated service. (John Anderson was his sponsor for coming to the United States.) He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook, where he volunteered his talents with many projects, repairs and new construction. He also volunteered the same services for the Hospital Auxiliary (also known as the Thrift Shop.) His family fondly recalls his passion for cutting firewood, and making sure there was more than an abundant supply to stoke the sauna. He could be counted on and had the ability to fix, repair or to figure out how most anything family or friends brought to him. In his quiet ways he instilled work ethic, humor, fairness and frugality to his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-father, Viljo Jokitalo and 2 brothers, Asko and Urpo Ruuska.

Eero is survived by his wife of 58 years Gerry, 1 daughter, Robin (George) Pliml of Cook; one son, Erick (Pam) Ruuska of Cook; 4 Grandsons, Louis (Robyn) Pliml, Matthew Pliml, Joel (Jenny) Ruuska and Seth (Jeannine) Ruuska; 4 great grandchildren, Jackson and Estella Pliml and Eero and Uno Ruuska; 3 sisters-in-law, Martha (Jim) Grossman, CA, Dorothy Ruuska, IN, and Lorene Ruuska, MN; 1 brother-in-law, David Anderson , FL; numerous nieces, nephews and other special extended family members.

The family would like to thank Cook Carefree Living for their wonderful care for Eero over the last year and Cook Community Hospital for their care in his last days. We are fortunate to have these resources with excellent staff in our community.
