Elizabeth A. Feist

Elizabeth Ann Feist, 78, Lake Vermilion-Cook, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Essentia Health (St. Mary's Hospital) in Duluth.

She was born on February 8, 1938, in Watseka, Illinois, where she grew up and graduated form high school. She earned her teaching degree in elementary education from Illinois State University. On April 22, 1961 she married Edward J. Feist in Watseka. Elizabeth taught school for a few years, then remained home to raise their
children. In 1961, they settled near Bloomington, Illinois where they farmed growing grains. In 1978 they moved to northern Minnesota and purchased Red Loon Lodge on Lake Vermilion. They operated the resort for 20 years, making lasting friendships with many of the guests. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cook.
Elizabeth liked art and took classes in water color painting and was an avid reader. She loved family "get-togethers" where she made each person feel special and comfortable by her individual attention. Her family fondly recalls her as was well spoken, very hospitable and loving her Lake Vermilion. Ed was a doting husband who cherished his wife. He spent many hours at her side during her long illness. She will dearly be missed by him and family, along with those who were fortunate to have known her.

She is preceded in death by 1 brother, Eugene Hess, and 1 sister, Lois Marcus.

Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Edward "Ed"; 3 sons, Mike (Jody) Feist of Cook, Bill Feist of Tower and Eddie Feist of St. Paul; 2 daughters, Ann (John Langan) Feist of Memphis, TN and Jennifer (Alan) Presley of Rauch, MN; 2 sisters, Margaret Ruebseman of Fl. and Jane (John) Johnson of AL; 5 Grandchildren, Katelynn and Melina Feist and Ryan, Jonathan, and Sarah Pirila; 1 great grandson, Luke Pirila; along with nieces, nephews and extended family.

SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 18th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cook. Fr. Drew Braun will be the celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The casket bearers will be Tony, Mark and Joe Witte, Alan Presley, Ryan Pirila, and Mike and Bill Feist. The honorary bearer will be Eddie Feist. St. Mary's Funeral Choir will sing, with accompaniment by Marjorie Miller. A reception in Elizabeth's honor will be served after Mass, followed by interment in the Cook Community Cemetery. Arrangements are with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
