Eugene "Gene"
Goodsky
Feb 5, 1942 — Feb 9, 2022
Gene Goodsky was born at home in Nett Lake, MN in 1942. He took his last breath surrounded by family and wrapped in love from people around the world on 9 Feb 2022.
He joined the Navy at 17 as a Machinist Mate (MM), serving on the USS Princeton during the atomic bomb testing in the South Pacific. Later, he would be classified as an "Atomic Vet."
After a brief break in service, Dad rejoined the Navy but this time a Seabee as a Builder (BU), doing what he loved - carpentry + serving this country.
He was honorably discharged in 1976 and he returned home to Nett Lake.
In 1980, Dad had a Spiritual Awakening, known as a Near Death Experience and soon was leading AA Meetings + become the culture leader at Nett Lake + Orr Schools. He spent 33 years teaching, loving, guiding, mentoring his students (and fellow staff) while also helping to bridge the cultural gaps and helping to ease racial tensions with integration of all students, in all schools in the Northland. He was a Spiritual Advisor for Bois Forte and Medicinal Healer for many.
He had a booming voice that commanded attention (especially at sporting events) yet was a softie, always giving big hugs and providing a shoulder to cry on to so many friends. His light always shone brightly through his kind eyes and smiling face.
Dad's gifts are too many and his impact is too far reaching to list but we know that his legacy will be felt for years to come.
Dad is survived by children Dianna, Lela (Fred), Curt (Mel) and Tom. 14 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren. Brother Henry, Sister Ellen, Numerous nieces and nephews, students who became like his children, friends that were family and his "most beautiful woman ever", PJ.
There is a void left behind that will never be filled. Actually, while we feel that way, he would rather want us all to be filled with love, and kindness and goodness that he always was. So we shall, and we would like you all to do the same.
