Gene Edward Freyholtz, 74, of Gheen, MN, passed away peacefully at the Cook Hospital on April 14, 2024.
Gene was born in Bemidji, MN, on March 3, 1950, to Daniel and Maud (Fortner) Freyholtz. Gene grew up on the family farm near Hines, MN. He attended school in Hines and Blackduck.

Gene was united in marriage in 1970 to MaryLou Ysen. From this marriage two daughters were born.

Gene married Paula Fischer in 1987. From this union Gene gained a stepson.

Gene worked for Luecken Brothers logging for many years before he and Paula started their own business, "Freyholtz Custom Shearing". Within a few years they had fledged into a complete logging company, doing all operations.

Gene was a lifelong outdoorsman: logging for a living, hunting, trapping, gardening, and doing lots of walleye fishing! He enjoyed feeding birds and watching the geese on his pond. He also enjoyed his toys: gator, tractor, and atv. His greatest joy was spending time with Paula.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his dear wife Paula, stepson Daniel, step-grandson Tyler; brothers David, Harvey, and Roger.

Gene is survived by his daughters: Darla Freyholtz of Gheen, MN, and Shawna (Justin) Rosenlund of Duluth, MN, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Irma Kellerman of Blackduck, MN, Maynard (Delores) Freyholtz of Condon, MT, Marvin (Barb) Freyholtz, and Dennis (Linda) Freyholtz of Hines, MN, and brother-in-law Bob (Diane) Fischer of Cook, MN, and several nieces and nephews.
