Helen A. Drift

Helen A. Drift, 76, Nett Lake, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Essentia Health – St. Mary's in Duluth.

She was born on August 19, 1940 in Nett Lake to James  and Ida Pearl (Canada) Drift Sr.   She grew up in Nett Lake, then completed schooling in Pine City for Bookkeeping.

Helen moved to Duluth where she worked for Kemp Fisheries for several years.  She

later returned to Nett Lake and went to school for carpentry.  She was a member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa.  Helen liked cooking, especially baking.  Earlier she made

blankets.   She enjoyed shopping and outings with her sister Rose, and the times spent with Rose's foster children.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 2 brothers, James Drift Jr. and Kenneth Drift; and 5 sisters, Gloria Drift, Twila Day, including 3 in infancy – Marjorie, Kathleen and Geraldine Drift.

Helen is survived by 1 sister, Rose Lien of Nett Lake, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other special relative and friends.

SERVICES: Traditional Tribal services will be at 10:00 am Friday, July 7,  2017, at the Government and Community Services Center in Nett Lake, where the Wake will begin after 5:00 pm Thursday.  Interment will be in the Nett Lake Village Cemetery.
