Helen A. Petersen
Helen A. Petersen, 95, Cook, former longtime resident of White Bear Lake, passed away at the Cook Nursing Home on Tuesday, January 27, 2015.
She was born Helen Anne Groshel on January 7, 1920 at Eveleth, to Frank and Helen (Drager) Groshel. She grew up in Eveleth and graduated from Chisholm High School in 1938. Helen moved to St. Paul, where she met and married Arthur Peterson on July 18, 1942. Helen worked at the ammunition plant in New Brighton, making shells for the War effort during World War II. After Arthur's honorable Army discharge, the couple settled in White Bear Lake in 1946, where they raised their family and lived for over 40 years. She was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in White Bear Lake. After Arthur's death in 1966, she moved to Vadnais Heights and worked as a waitress at The Lexington Restaurant in St. Paul for 22 years. She took great delight in vacationing with family and friends. Her travels took her to many states and many countries. Many treasured memories were made in the recreational vehicle up north fishing and vacationing. Her family fondly recalls her being "one busy lady". Even in her later years, she liked her weekly golf outings and in her 80's enjoyed her twice weekly aerobics class.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur in 1966; a grandson Steven Luecken; and 4 brothers, Frank, Harry, John and Floyd Groshel.
Helen is survived by 1 son, Ridgely Petersen of Vadnais Heights, MN; 2 daughters, Glorie (Robert) Luecken of Orr and Phyllis (Roland) Krauss of Redmond, WA; 4 cherished grandchildren: Paul (Twila) Luecken, Jason (Amy) Luecken, Christine (George) Krauss-Sell and Briggan Krauss; 3 cherished Great Grandchildren: Nicholas Luecken, Annika Krauss-Sell and Phoebe Luecken; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: Memorial services will be at a later announced date late Spring in White Bear Lake, MN. Local arrangements are with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
