J. Dale Long

Dale Long, 61, of Orr passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Dale was born on October 28, 1955 in International Falls, MN the son of Clinton and Marion (Smith) Long. He graduated from the Orr High School Class of 1974, then furthered his education by completing the Auto Mechanics program at Bemidji Technical Institute.
Dale married Diane Johnson on April 10, 1976 in Silverdale and the couple made their home in Orr, where they raised their family and lived the past 40 years. Earlier he worked for Seppi Bros. Concrete Products, and logged in all aspects of wood products. He was the Business Agent/organizer for the I.U.O.E. (International Union of Operating Engineers), Local 49, retiring in 2014 after many years of dedicated service. Dale was the current president of Lake Country Power Association, board member of Great River Energy, and past mayor of Orr. Dale had many interests some of which included: hunting, snowmobiling, fishing, 4-wheeling, restoring old vehicles & snowmobiles and golfing. His most treasured times were those spent with family.

He is preceded in death by his father Clinton "Bob" (1988), father-in law and mother-in-law Donald (2002) and Ellen (2014) Johnson; and sister-in-law Tammy Johnson (2008).

Dale is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diane; 2 sons, Jason (Melissa) Long of Cook, and Ryan (Michelle) Long of Orr; his mother Marion Long of Cusson; 2 brothers, Tom (Judy) Long and Clinton Long both of Cusson; 4 grandchildren, Joshua, Jackson, Cora and Renee; along with numerous special nieces, nephews and friends.

SERVICES: Public visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Wednesday (Jan. 11th) at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Private family services will be held at a later date. Spring interment will be in the Silverdale Cemetery.
