Jack Leonard
Woehrle
Nov 16, 1942 — Jan 5, 2023
Jack Leonard Woehrle of Orr, Minnesota died January 5th, 2023 in Rockport, Texas while on vacation.
He was born on November 16th, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. Jack graduated from Lane Technical High School. After graduation he immediately left for his favorite place, Minnesota.
He worked as a lumberjack in the Northwest Angle in the winters, and moved houses during the summers. Three years later he returned to Chicago and joined the electrician's union as a PBX apprentice.
On September 17th, 1966 Jack married the love of his life, Carol Broda. For the next 10 years, they started a family while Jack worked for Illinois Bell. During that time, they enjoyed summer vacations at the family cabin on Elephant Lake near Orr. In November of 1976 Jack and Carol moved to Orr and purchased Birch Forest Lodge on Pelican Lake. Jack enjoyed resort life for the next 20 years.
Jack was a man of many interests. He led a full and active life and approached everything with gusto. He was a drummer in a band called the "Blue Notes" and played regularly in a club in Chicago. He was a life member of the NRA for over 50 years, as well as a member of the Masons for 52 years. He was a private pilot and a member of the Pelican Flyers, a firearms safety instructor, a charter member of the Orr Lions Club, volunteer firefighter, president of the Orr Pelican Lake Resort Association, and a board member of the Minnesota State Resort Association. He was a member of the Holy Cross church council, scoutmaster, and was instrumental in starting the first tourist center in Orr. He loved his 1929 Model A Ford (Wilma), and his Goldwing motorcycle. He was an avid sportsman and had a passion for hunting and fishing. He loved nothing more than seeing his grandchildren get their first deer. He had many hunting adventures including deer, bear, moose, antelope, geese and caribou in the Arctic.
He loved to travel visiting most of the US, but most of all he loved Mexico. Jack and Carol built a home in the seaside village of San Pancho, Nayarit. They enjoyed 27 years of winters in Mexico. Jack had a great zest for life, but most of all Jack was a family man. He filled the house with laughter and fun. He was everyone's rock. He could fix anything and loved to tell jokes.
He will be greatly missed as a husband, father and "Papa".
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Anita Woehrle.
Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years Carol; son Alan (Jacinta) Woehrle; daughter Janet (Gregg) Ponting; grandchildren Jacob and Kaitlyn Woehrle, Noah, Anita, and Emma Staupe, and Brady Ponting; a brother Don (Anne) Woehrle; brother-in-law Joseph (Joanne) Broda; cherished cousins, and many nephews and nieces.
