Obituary

James Hendy

James "Jim" Joseph Hendy, of Buhl, MN, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the age of 74.

Jim was born January 27, 1943 to Clybourne and Esther Hendy in Cook, MN.  He grew up as the youngest of four and attended Cook High School, graduating in 1961.  He joined the National Guard and later married Elaine Seopa of Togo, MN, at the Cook Baptist Church where he was a lifetime member.

Jim worked at various jobs including Picek Construction and Martin Chevrolet before starting his career based in Virginia, MN as Managing Director for Unit Rig and Equipment, Wiseda, and Hoss Equipment, companies headquartered in Oklahoma supplying off-road trucks for the mining industry.  This led him to work at various mines in the United States, Canada, Africa, and Australia.

At a very early age, Jim developed an avid interest in cars, primarily Chevrolets and Corvettes.  He had a unique ability to remember detailed descriptions of cars he had in past years.  This led to his enjoyment of watching NASCAR races every weekend sharing his recliner with his latest canine buddy, Syd.

Jim continually encouraged others to overcome obstacles and work to reach their potential.  Although he faced numerous medical situations, he never complained, but maintained an incredibly positive attitude, for which he will always be remembered.

Jim is survived by Elaine, his loving wife of nearly 50 years; two sisters, Beverly Johnson and Phyllis Cain; brother-in-law, Glen Seopa (Rita Brabec); sisters-in-law, Evelyn Sandberg, Carolyn (Wally) Fendt, Gloria Percy, Barb Seopa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sherman; brothers-in-law, Gerald Johnson and Homer Cain.

As a thankful recipient of different organ transplants, including a kidney in 1986 from his sister, Phyllis, and a second kidney in 2007 from a niece, Sharon Gibson, Jim wanted to contribute to medical research. He decided to donate his body to the University of Minnesota Medical School.  Upon completion of the study, graveside services will be held at a later date at the Carpenter Cemetery, Togo, MN.  Arrangements are entrusted to Mlaker Funeral Home, Cook MN.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to organ transplant, such as Head of the Lakes Organ Transplant Support Group or a charity of your choice.
