Janina "Jane" Las



Janina "Jane" Las, 63, Pelican Lake-Orr, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.



She was born on January 28, 1952 in Rogoznik, Poland, the daughter of the late Jozef and Aniela Komperda. She grew up in Rogosznik, then at the age of 17 moved to Toronto, Canada where she resided for 3 years. In 1971 she moved to Chicago, IL, where she met and later married Jozef 'Joe" Las on February 14, 1972. In 1985 the couple moved to Orr where they purchased the Deer Lodge Resort and together ran the resort the past 30 seasons. Throughout the years at the resort, she met wonderful people and made many lasting friendships.

Her family fondly recalls her greatest happiness was being together with family, above all, her cherished grandchildren. She loved nature and had a soft heart for animals- especially dogs, deer and birds. Trips to casinos and gambling in Las Vegas provided good times and treasured memories, along with her usual good luck. She enjoyed the outdoors whether it be 4-wheeling, snowmobiling or just a walk in the woods.

Janina was a hard worker and gave her all to each of the challenges in life including her final challenge with cancer.



In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by 2-brothers: Jan Komperda, and Jozef Komperda.



Janina is survived by her dear husband of 43 years Joe of Pelican Lake-Orr; loving mother of children- Theresa (Brian) Peters of Roseville, MN and Richard (Karen) Las of Pelican Lake-Orr, caring grandmother to- Isabella, Abby, Riley, Olivia , and Leah; 1 brother -Stanislaw Komperda of Chicago, IL; 1sister- Maria (Joe) Murzydlo of Toronto, Canada; a wonderful aunt to many nieces, nephews and a host of friends, including special friend Veronica Holman.



SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Orr. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Friday at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook, and will continue Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Fr. Drew Braun will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Mary Beth Reller. Burial will follow in the Leiding cemetery of Orr. A reception in honor of Janina will be held in the church social hall.
