Jennie Woodenfrog, Ge be-gah shig made her journey to the spirit world on the morning of May 7, 2024.  She was 94.  She was born on June 18, 1929 on Lake Kabetogama to John Woodenfrog Sr. and Marie Sears Woodenfrog.  Anishinaabemowin was her first language and she was a longtime Nett Lake resident and worked for several years in the area.  She worked hard, loved her family, loved to tease, enjoyed playing board or card games, and laughing especially when she was on a winning streak.  She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. She once told her grandniece, who was wearing a Jacoby Ellsbury Boston Red Sox shirt, to "take that off this is a Twins house!"  She enjoyed going to the casino, concerts, powwows, ceremonies, shopping, traveling, harvesting manoomin, picking blueberries, speaking Ojibwemowin with her friends and loved ones, and visiting Lake Kabetogama the land where she was born and shared memories of her parents and siblings.  She also loved to cook and gather with family over a good meal while sharing stories about family, friends, and her childhood.  Jennie was always there, happy to see family, but could be ornery if she felt the need.  She is Midewiwin and makwa is her doodem.

She is preceded in death by mother, Marie Sears Woodenfrog and father, John Woodenfrog, Sr.; brothers: William Woodenfrog and John Woodenfrog, Jr.; sisters: Mary Woodenfrog Strong, Nancy Woodenfrog Boney, and Louise Woodenfrog; nephews: Peter Boney, Arnold Boney, Kenneth Boney, John Boney, James Boney, Jr., and Harvey Thompson; and niece: Julia Wilde.  She is survived by her nieces: Irene Boney (Roseville, MN) and Mary Ann Juliano (Lawrence, KS); and many grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

SERVICES: Traditional services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, May 13, 2024 at the Nett Lake Government and Community Services Center, where the wake will start after 4:00 PM Sunday. The spiritual advisor will be Bill Blackwell and the spiritual advisor's assistant will be Vernon Adams. Pallbearers will be Matthew Boney, Jeffrey Boney, Jason Boney, Anthony Juliano, Kyle Juliano, and John Juliano. The honorary bearers will be Jim Morrison, Pete Boney Jr., Vernon Boney, Andyr Warrington, Brad Johnson and James Wilde. Burial will be in the Woodenfrog Cemetery in Nett Lake. Arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
