Jessie F. Rutar

Jessie Frances Rutar, 79, of Buyck passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Cook Care Center.
She was born on September 24, 1937 in Buyck one of nine children of Stanley and Rose (Lasky) Hoffman Sr. She grew up in Buyck, graduating from the Orr High School class of 1955. Jessie was united in marriage to Anthony "Aunch" Rutar on April 28, 1956 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Buyck. They lived in Chisholm and Hibbing for a time. Jessie and her husband Tony formed Rutar Logging in 1957 where she served 50 years as bookkeeper. The business is still run today by their three sons. She also was employed as a rural mail carrier for 20 years for the Buyck and Vermilion Dam area, and also worked in the Buyck Post Office. Jessie was an active member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Buyck where she served as president of the women's club. She later became a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Orr after the merging of the churches.
She enjoyed gardening, canning, knitting, polka festivals and especially loved spending time with family and friends. Jessie was a gracious host and had family and friends stopping at her home, for great meals and visits. Her family fondly recalls there was "a lot of traffic" in their home. Jessie cherished her family especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who have come to know her.
She is preceded in death by her grandson: JosH Rutar on January 1, 2007; 5 brothers, Albert, Theodore, Donald, Anthony and Stanley Hoffman Jr.; and 1 sister Dorothy Halvorson
Jessie is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years Anthony "Aunch" Rutar; 3 sons: Mark (Mary) Rutar, Gary (Lori) Rutar and Robert (Yvette) Rutar all of Buyck: 6 grandchildren: Justin (Megan) Rutar, Kelly (Ryan) Karasek, Kristina (Andy) Amys, Melissa (fiancé Jeff Fjelstad) Rutar, Sarah (Jeremy Wright) Rutar and Scotty Rutar; 6 Great Grandchildren, Lyla and Easton Karasek, Gavin and Owen Rutar, and Keegan and Piper Amys; 1 brother Charlie Hoffman of Cook; 1 sister Marie Sertich of Duluth; 1 brother-in-law Larry "Sonny" Halvorson of Mesa, AZ; along with many special nieces, nephews and extended family.
SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 7, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Orr. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. Drew Braun will be the officiant. Mary Beth Reller will provide the music. Casket bearers will be Justin Rutar, Scotty Rutar, Ryan Karasek, Andy Amys, Jeff Fjelstad and Jeremy Wright. Interment will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery of Buyck. A reception in honor of Jessie will be held after the service at the Orr American Legion Hall.
