Joann Elizabeth Mault

Joann Elizabeth Mault, 91, of Cook passed way on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Cook Care Center.

She was born on February 25, 1925 in Pemberville, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Reba (Frizzell) Hottle. Joann married Jay M. Mault on August 15, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio. They lived in Toledo and Indianapolis, Indiana until moving to Buyck, MN in 1959, where Joann and Jay owned and operated Vermilion Dam Lodge on Lake Vermilion until 1974. Joann's love and passion for baking and cooking was enjoyed by many guests and fishermen. She made many lasting friendships with guests throughout the years. Joann and Jay moved to their private home on Lake Vermilion in 1974, where she resided until 1987. Joann was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Cook. She worked as a cook, including head cook at the Cook Hospital for 10 years. As a 20 year (and longest) resident of the Pioneer Apartments in Cook, she was host to many friends, grandchildren and family. Her joy in life was cooking and baking for her family and spending time with her grandchildren

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jay (January 6, 1981) a brother "Jim" Clinton Hottle; and a sister, Susan Baker.

Joann is survived by her children: Jay (Tammy) Mault of Ramsey, MN, Catherine ( "Dick" Dennis Barrett) Carriveau of Aitkin, MN and William (Nancy) Mault of Lake Vermilion-Cook; numerous grandchildren – including close grandchildren, Jennifer (Christopher) Maurer, Jessica (James) Darcy and Daniel Mault; along with great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

SERVICES: A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m Tuesday, (August 30th) at the First Baptist Church in Cook. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Jared Bangs will be the officiant. The soloist will be Kathy Forsline with Doreen Olson providing the accompaniment. A reception in honor of Joann will follow in the church social hall. Burial will be in the Cook Community Cemetery.
