John M. Hill

John M. Hill, 64, of Cook, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Cook Hospital.

John was born on March 11, 1951 in Virginia, the son of Roy and Irma (Eklund) Hill. He grew up in Cook and graduated from Cook High School in 1969. John served in U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he lived in Montana for a few years, where he engaged in carpentry, then moved back to Cook, becoming a member of the Carpenters Local #606. He became self employed and was a skilled sought after carpenter who always had work. John married Cindy L. Boskovich on October 10, 2014 in Virginia. He loved to play cards especially poker, and in the past enjoyed hunting. He was a great care giver to his step-father Fred Shapansky.

He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Hill (1978), mother Irma Shapansky (2008), and a brother, Jay B. Hill (1976)

John is survived by his wife Cindy of Cook; step-father: Fred Shapansky of Cook; step-children: Matthew (Rebecca) Durbahn of Indian Hills, CO and Patrick (Tiffany) Durbahn of Buhl, MN; sisters: Julie (Greg) Rostvit of Shevlin, MN, Jane (Allen) Treibel of Webster City, Iowa and Jennifer (Johnny Ray) Wilenius of PA,; 4 step-grandchildren, Vanessa, Natalie, Burton, and Carson; longtime dear friend and neighbor Smoke Weatherton of Cook; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

SERVICES: A celebration of John's life will be held at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, (Sept. 29th) at Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Liz Cheney will be the officiant. Military honors will be accorded by the combined honor guards of the Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1757 and the Orr American Legion Post #480.
