Joseph N. Horoshak
Joseph Nicholas Horoshak, 80, of Pelican Lake-Orr, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Cook Hospital.
He was born on June 14, 1935 in Eveleth to Paul and Virgil (Croteau) Horoshak. He graduated from the Eveleth High School in 1954. Joe served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He worked for the DWP Railroad, Oliver Mining Company and Johnson Brothers Construction. On October 24, 1959 he married Sandra Dye in Eveleth. They owned a grocery store in Eveleth and the San-Lor Bar in Virginia. Joe received his Associate in Arts degree in 1966 from Eveleth Jr. College, his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968 from Bemidji State College and his Master of Arts Degree in 1978 from Mankato State University.
In 1968 the family moved to Northfield, Minnesota, where he taught in the Northfield Public Schools for 26 years. After retiring in 1994, Joe and his wife Sandy moved to Pelican Lake-Orr, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and scuba diving. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. Joe was a life member of the National Education Association and Minnesota Education Association.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Virgil Horoshak; brothers: Louie and Paul "Sonny" Horoshak; sisters: Rae Perrault, Margie Hall and Beverly Carsten.
Joe is survived by his wife of 55 years Sandy; one brother Bill (Sue) Horoshak of Eveleth; daughter, Terri Horoshak (Bill Schwalbe) of Northfield; sons, Dr. Brad (Kathy) Horoshak of Cook and Dr. Robert (Shar) Horoshak of Duluth (Heidi Horoshak of CA); He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Nick Schwalbe, Jess (Jon) Renderos, Andria Schwalbe, Luke (Katie) Schwalbe, Candace Horoshak, Chaz Horoshak, Elizabeth Swanson, Alex Horoshak, Jon Horoshak, and Rachel Horoshak; 4 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
SERVICES: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Orr. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. Drew Braun will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by MaryBeth Reller. Honorary bearers will be Brad and Tammie Beckwith. Military honors will be accorded by the Orr American Legion Post #480 and Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1757.
