It is with great sadness that we announce that Joseph Shanor, 84, of Angora, Minnesota, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Joe was born in Cook, Minnesota on June 9, 1938 to Herbert and Ida (Bender) Shanor.  The youngest of 5 sons, Joe grew up in Round Lake, Illinois.  Joe joined the U.S. Navy in 1956 and served honorably for four years.  Joe then married Nance Hartnett on October 14, 1961 in Libertyville, Illinois.  Joe and Nance added three daughters to their family: Nancy in 1962, Patricia in 1964 and Barbara in 1965.  In 1972, Joe and Nance moved their family to Cook, Minnesota where the girls began attending Cook Schools and Joe began working with the St. Louis Co. Garage (Linden Grove) as a Mechanic.  Joe retired after almost 30 years of service from St. Louis County in July 2000.

Joe enjoyed scrapping and tinkering, bowling, playing (i.e. winning) games that involved numbers, watching the Minnesota Twins play and collecting stamps and coins.

Joe is survived by his twin brother, Gene (Ruth); daughters, Nancy (Chuck) McNeil, Patti Alt, and Barbara (Blair) Carlson; grandchildren, Andrew (Rochelle), Joe (Karen), Cullen, Devlin, Chaz (Adam), Reed (Steph), Riley, Keenan (Mina), and Eliana; great-grandchildren, Saylah, Cora, Judah and Boaz; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and their wives, his wife, Nance, and his son-in-law, Ken.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the care provided by the staff at The Emeralds of Grand Rapids and Moments Hospice.

At Joe's request, no funeral or memorial services are planned.
