Obituary

Judith Katherine Youngquist, 97, of Cook, MN, went home to the Lord her Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday evening, November 17, 2018.

Judy was born to Edward and Greta (Nygaard) Kronholm on June 28, 1921 at their log home in East Little Fork, MN.  It was a home filled with faith, love, and music. Her childhood was a picture post card life of sleigh rides to church under bear skins, berry picking, and picnics around Lake Vermilion.  The loss of her mother at age seven bonded their family with an extra measure of courage and creativity.  At the age of nine she put her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized in Lake Vermilion.

After graduating from Cook High School in 1939, Judy went to Duluth to train and work as a maid.  She often said she was a maid for four years, but we all know that what she learned of hospitality and homemaking during that time, was lived out for the rest of her life in the gracious way in which she served her family and all who came through their home.

Judy married Harris on June 9, 1945 and after pastoring in Argyle, MN, left for their life work as Baptist General Conference missionaries to Japan in 1950.  Having wanted to be a teacher, her dream came true in that she taught all four of her children at home.  Her musical giftedness was used in ministry in many ways.

After retiring from the mission in 1989, she and Harris continued in the ministry at the Cook and Babbitt Baptist churches while living in their home on the shore of Lake Vermilion.   She was a helpmate in the loving and serving of all the people who came through their lives. Her life reflected a spirit of thankfulness.  She always had a ready smile to the very end.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Greta; three brothers: Einar, Gunnar and Oliver; two sisters: Astrid and Margaret; and daughter-in-law: Barb Youngquist.

Judy is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Victor "Harris" Youngquist; her children: Joan (Ronald) Stoller of Portland, OR; James (MiKyung) Youngquist of Melbourne, FL; Thomas Youngquist of Vadnais Heights, MN; and Mary Lou (Thomas) Ellison of Cook, MN; twelve grandchildren: Niccole Shipley, Colorado Springs, CO; Michelle (Bill) Calvin, Cave Creek, AZ; Jonathan Stoller, Portland, OR; Naomi (Lloyd) Tyndall, Adkins, TX; Stephen (Carrie) Stoller, Portland, OR; Aaron (Heather) Stoller, Hillsboro, OR; Luke Ellison, Fairfax, VA; Ellen Ellison, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Peter (Kristi) Ellison; St. Paul, MN; Philip Ellison, Holsby, Sweden; Erick (Amy) Ellison, Salem, OR; and Grace Ellison, Minneapolis, MN; her thirteen great grandchildren, one sister-in-law: Eunice Kronholm, and twelve nieces and nephews.
