Obituary

Kathlene "Kathy" Cheney

Kathlene "Kathy" Cheney, 59, Cook, died on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at her daughter's residence in Field Township. She passed away after a long illness with her family by her side.
Kathy was born on February 5, 1956 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. At the age of 6 she was adopted by Arnold and Ina (Kokko) Simonson, and lived nearly all her life in the Cook area. She was married to Michael Cheney and they were blessed with two children. Kathy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cook, where she was involved in Vacation Bible School, and loved helping with many of the craft projects for the children. She was a dedicated care giver to her parents in their later years. Kathy loved her house plants and had a "green thumb" in growing them. Her home overflowed with house plants and her family fondly recalls that her house was a "jungle" of plants. She was proud of her Irish heritage and actively celebrated all Irish events, especially St. Patrick's Day. Kathy had her own unique great sense of humor. Earlier she had enjoyed fishing, especially long days on the pontoon boat. Her greatest accomplishment was her love of her family, especially her grandchildren. Her heart was always most happy when she was with children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Arnold (1999) and Ina (1999); 2 brothers, Dennis and Bill Bailey; and 1 sister, Carol Jean Yahke.
Kathy is survived by her children, Michael Cheney and Lizbeth (Daniel) Thom both of Cook; 1 sister, Paulette "Punky" Schoon of Brainerd; 6 cherished grandchildren, Daniel "D.J.", Braden, Elliana and Caleb Thom, and Kate and Luke Cheney; and special longtime friend Pete Johnson of Cook.
