Kenneth A. Boney  "Deda-ka mi gi-shig"

Kenneth Alvin Boney, "Deda-ka mi gi-shig" (means a best day or good day), 75, of Nett Lake, passed away at the Virginia Care Center, in Virginia, on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

He was born on September 18, 1941 to James Sr. and Nancy (Woodenfrog) Boney. Kenneth grew up in Nett Lake and attended Nett Lake Elementary School and Virginia Public Schools. He furthered his education by attending Santa Fe Art School in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Kenneth was employed as a laborer in the logging industry in Minnesota and as an assembler in a tire plant in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa.

Kenneth was fluent in the Ojibway language and conducted many ceremonies as a spiritual advisor for funerals and assisted in medicine healing. He is a member of Grand Medicine Society.

Kenneth's hobbies were wood carving, art paintings, fishing, hunting, and wild rice harvesting.  His special interest were all sporting events

He is preceded in death by parents James Boney Sr. and Nancy Woodenfrog Boney; 3 brothers, Peter Boney Sr. (1983), Arnold Boney (2011) and John Boney (2013).

Kenneth is survived by one brother, James Boney Jr. of Eagan, MN; three sisters, Julia Wilde of Oklahoma City, OK, Irene Boney of Roseville, MN, and Mary Ann Juliano of Lawrence, KS; one aunt, Jennie Woodenfrog of Nett Lake, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

SERVICES: Traditional services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Nett Lake Government and Community  Services Center, where the wake will start after 4:00 PM Friday.  The spiritual advisor will be Bill Blackwell and the spiritual advisor's assistant will be Vernon Adams. Pallbearers will be Matthew Boney, James Wilde, Jeffrey Boney, Jason Boney, Preston Juliano, Anthony Juliano, Kyle Juliano and John Juliano. The honorary bearers will be Gary Strong, Ron Boshey, Canute Graue, Jim Morrison, Pete Boney Jr., Brad Johnson and Clint Miller.  Burial will be in the Woodenfrog Cemetery in Nett Lake.  Arrangements are with the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
