Larry P. Johnson

Larry Palmer Johnson, 65, Foley, MN formerly of Mtn. Iron, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2015, in Mtn. Iron, with his daughter at his side.

Larry, also known to his St. Cloud friends as "Lawrence" was diagnosed a month ago with advanced stage 4 colon cancer and had been living with his daughter since the diagnosis.

Larry was born in Virginia, MN on June 20, 1950 to Harry Gilmore Johnson and Mary Victoria Carlson. He graduated from Mountain Iron High School in 1968 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from UMD and a Master of Arts from Mankato State. He managed various cities and counties across the state of Minnesota. In later years Larry sold real estate both on the Iron Range and in the St. Cloud area. Larry spent about half of his life on the Iron Range and the other half in central Minnesota region from the late 70's to early 90's and returned to the St. Cloud area in 2007. Here he was a very active Republican, having served many times as a Minnesota state delegate and a delegate to the 6th Congressional District. He currently served as chairman of the Benton County Republican BPOU. He was on the Speaker's Committee of the Central Minnesota Tea Party. He enjoyed attending Dan "Ox" Ochsner's Town Hall Tuesday. He was an active supporter of state and local Republicans senators and representatives and active member in all things Republican.
He is predeceased by his parents.
Larry is survived by his one and only daughter Jennifer (Eric) Smith of Virginia; special friend Ronda Wintheiser of White Bear Lake and her daughters Jessica and Carissa; grandchildren Noah and Emma Smith of Virginia; aunt and godmother Lorraine Carlson of Cook; cousins Gary (Patty) Carlson and Shirley (Gary) Martinson both of Cook; Tara (Robert) Uren of Coon Rapids, Roy Carlson and Ralph (Julie) Carlson both of Virginia; along with numerous friends.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, (Oct.28th) at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mtn. Iron, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Kristen Foster will be the officiant. A reception in Larry's honor will immediately follow the service at the church. Interment will be held at the Cook Community Cemetery after the lunch.
