LaVerne E. Tupy

LaVerne Evelyn Tupy, 89 of Cook formerly of Gheen, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the Cook Nursing Home.

LaVerne was born on August 7, 1926 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Walter and Lydia (Dixon) Gross. She grew up in Minneapolis and was employed at the Federal Arsenal Ammunition Factory in New Brighton, where she met her future husband Roy Tupy. They were married on December 27, 1952 in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis for a time, Roy then accepted a position as a Forest Ranger stationed in Togo. They made their home in Gheen for 40 years, where they raised their family. Roy and LaVerne were known for their "huge" abundant vegetable gardens. Roy and LaVerne moved to Cook in 1997. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cook. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, games -especially board games. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. LaVerne will be remembered as a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her husband Roy on January (2009); 1 son, Raymond Tupy (1998); 1 granddaughter, Stephanie Scofield (1993); 1 grandson, Joseph Bedi (2011); 2 brothers, Walter and Aloyious Gross and 1 sister, Wetona "Toni" Sarna.

She is survived by 2 sons: Mark (Barb) Tupy of Hibbing, and Mike (Kathi) Tupy of Gheen; 3 daughters: Theresa "Terry" Rankila of Stillwater, Bernadette "Bebe" (Kane) Suomi of Mt. Iron and Christopher "Chris" (Bruce) Schuster of Lake Vermilion-Tower; 2 sisters: Jeannean Klempka of St. Paul and Beverly (Larry) Warren of Minneapolis; 16 grandchildren,16 great grandchildren with another on the way; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM , Monday, August 17, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cook. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Father Drew Braun will be the celebrant. Casket bearers will be: Matthew Tupy, Aaron Tupy, Jeremy Suomi, Jeffrey Suomi, Jonathan Suomi and Gary Cook. The honorary bearer will be Cole Schuster. A reception in LaVernes's honor will follow the service in the church social hall. Burial will follow in The Willow Valley Township Cemetery. Arrangements are with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
