Obituary

Lori Mae Nurmi (Saarikoski), 58, of Angora died unexpectedly at her residence on Friday, November 20 th , 2020. She was the youngest born to John and Ailie Saarikoski on March 22, 1962. She was very proud to grow up on her family's farm in Greaney – throwing hay bales, helping her dad make moonshine (even if she had to miss a date) and she took that strength to become the Arm Wrestling Champion of Region 7 in the 70s. Lippy Lor was involved in the FFA, cheerleading, and was the President of the IBTC.

She married her Best Friend and Buddy, Clarkie, on October 1 st , 1983. They spent every single moment together and were truly inseparable.

She enjoyed fall 4-wheeling camping trips, her weekend get-a-ways, camping – where she always led a bear hunt, lathered in baby oil to get dark, doing "THE LOOP" was a requirement after dinner (don't burn the chicken), playing Holey Boards (but no one can touch the #2s), floating, and she always had a deck of cards or 2. She loved her Auntie Shirley's weekend filled with marbles, Cranium, & laughter. Christmas was always at the Nurmi's where the lights are always on and the cards are always dealt.

Lori worked at EVTAC, Sturgeon Co-Op, Jaybee's video, Clark's IGA, and then at ISD 2142 for 24 years. Her many accomplishments include her lavish garden, a large lawn that always needed mowing, she made sure her fields were burnt every spring, coaching volleyball as she loved "all her girls", she was a shoulder to lean on, a voice to inspire, an ear to listen, a hand to hold, a heart to care to the hundreds of children that have walked the halls of the Cook and Northwoods schools over the last couple of decades, but her greatest accomplishment is being MUMMU. Each and every grandchild held a special place in her heart:

Logano was the first and favorite, she helped raise him as a baby and watched him grow and helped shape him from a little boy into the young man he is today. She also knew how to get some extra time with her teenage grandson: Make milk potatoes for supper.

Johnny always had his Mummu attend his sporting events cheering very loudly and realized where his mom got that from. She taught him how to ride the lawn mower, explained to him what every plant was as they grew in every summer as they weeded, filled her humidifier for her, as he made up for taking the crochet hooks and knitting needles out in the middle of a project and leaving the seat up.

Clarkie/Clunky wasn't disappointed as she always had flashlights, colors for the fire, camping cookies and taught him "the kick" during holey boards and Mummu let him make dams in the driveway.

Si loved going to his Mummu's. She always had green jello, a garden full of carrots and cherry tomatoes, snake hunting, and she has the best "loop" where he could do his favorite thing even in the house – RUN.

Rykerman was so very lucky as he had the hardest time the first 2 years at big boy school – if it wasn't for Mummu and their breakfast dates, he would have cried every single day;

Mav was the most spoiled by her as he was unable to keep up with those older boys so he got to spend that extra special time with his Mummu,

and finally, she got her girl/princess – Izzy, the future Queen.

Preceded in death by parents, John & Ailie Saarikoski (Jacobson); siblings Judy, Elaine, and Daniel.

Survived by Step-Mother, Patricia "Deanne" Saarikoski; Buddy and husband Clark Nurmi, children Erin "Ernie" Danielson (Adam) & Nicholas "Nik" Nurmi (Mallory Manick), Grandchildren Logan Nurmi, John Danielson, Clark Danielson, Silas Nurmi, Ryker Nurmi, Maverick Nurmi, and "The Princess" Isabelle Nurmi; Sister Kathy "Granny" Paavola (George), a very special Auntie Shirley Bixby along with nieces, nephews, cousins, step-siblings, and numerous Fantastic friends.

We will miss her infectious laugh, her sense of humor, her SISU – even though some might consider it stubbornness, and the ability to tell you how it is. Either you're Finn or you wanted to be. Mom, Dad finally burnt the pants.
