Marjorie "Marge" A. Wakemup Holmes

Marjorie "Marge" Wakemup Holmes, 79, Nett Lake, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Essentia Health- St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

She was born Marjorie Alice Wakemup on January 2, 1936, in Nett Lake; to John and Mabel (Soreyes) Wakemup. She grew up in Nett Lake, was married to Axel Holmes
for many years, and where she raised her family. Among many of her passions in her life, she counted her jobs as school aide, being a member of the Local Indian Education Committee, the Johnson O'Malley Committee and ENP (Early Nutrition Program) Coordinator as the most important. She was a member of the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa and also worked at the Nett Lake Police Department for many years.
Marge's family fondly recalls that she enjoyed beading and had enough beads and supplies to stock a store, liked "sneaking" to the casino and playing bingo, and of her persistence in playing Dr. Mario and Pac Man.
She was an expert at sewing and quilting. She enjoyed watching "Lets Make Deal", "Price is Right", "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" with her grandson. She especially liked River Dance and Celtic Thunder. Marge gave her love of reading to many of her children and grandchildren. She loved visiting her many relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Ralph, John Jr. and Frank Wakemup; and 2 sisters, Vera Belt and Susan Sullivan.

Marge is survived by her favorite children- Mildred Holmes, Marian Holmes, Vera (James) Branstrom, Victoria (Raymond) Villebrun, Axel Holmes Jr., Charles Holmes Sr.; former husband, Axel Holmes; 1 brother, Roger Wakemup; 1 sister, Alice Wakemup; 18 favorite Grandchildren, 8 favorite Great Grandchildren; numerous favorite nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and many, many favorite cousins.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 28th, at the Nett Lake Government Center, where visitation will be after 6:00 PM Monday. Rev. Kevin Land will be the officiant. The casket bearers will be Nolan Littlewolf, John Littlewolf, Dave Chavers, Aaron "Supe" Villebrun, Andrew Branstrom, and Cole Potter. The honorary bearers will be Dana Wakemup, Chuck Holmes Jr., Wendell Hoagland, Mike Connor, David Morrison Sr., Floyd Morrison and John Day. Interment will be in the Nett Lake Cemetery.
