Obituary

Mark Gregory Hollanitsch, 71, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016, at
the Cook Hospital.

He was born in St Paul, MN on July 30, 1945, the oldest son of Gregory and
Mary Hollanitsch. He grew up in St. Paul, and Roseville, MN, graduating
from Alexander Ramsey high school in 1963, and enlisting in the US Navy
following graduation. He served for 3 years, including a tour in Vietnam
Nam. Following his military service he attended college on the GI bill,
studying law enforcement and forestry, earning an AA degree.

Mark did many interesting and varied jobs over the years, including working
as a law enforcement officer, diesel mechanic for a railroad, the DNR in
California and MN, the US Forest Service, an engineer on a cannery
processing ship in Alaska, a heavy equipment operator at a gold mine in
Alaska, a honey harvester for a beekeeper in Colorado, and a bear hunting
guide in MN, among others too numerous to name.

Mark enjoyed the outdoors and was an enthusiastic hunter. He was an avid
supporter of the shooting sports and the hobby of reloading; he taught many
people to shoot and reload their own ammo. He also had a knack for small
engine repair.

Although in his later years he liked to say he was a hermit and lived in his
shack in the woods, he was a good friend to many, and would help out when
needed.

Mark will be joining his parents in heaven, where we are sure his mom will
tell him he needs a haircut!

He is survived by son, Erick, brother Kurt, sisters Linda (Bill) Knish and
Rita (Dennis) Schumacher, nieces Julie and Shannon, and nephews Scott, Brian
and Benjamin. He is also survived his grand-dogs Tara and Burget.

Although he will be greatly missed, in honor of Mark's wishes, no formal
services will be held. A gathering of family and friends will be at a later
date.
