Marvin L. Aune

Marvin Louis Aune, 84, of Cook passed away unexpectantly Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Cook Hospital.
Marvin was born on August 1, 1932 to Louis and Alma (Amundson) Aune in Cook. He lived in Linden Grove and moved to Cook in 1933, graduating from the Cook High School Class of 1951. He went into the Army at Fort Riley, serving from 2/5/1953 to 12/16/1954, completed Fifth Army Area Food Service School and was stationed in Austria during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he returned back to Cook and worked for a short time with the DWP. Marvin then was employed as a lineman for the Rural Electrical Association (REA) out of Cook, building power lines to outlying townships and communities. In later years he worked in the shop-parts department in the Virginia warehouse, retiring from NECA (Northern Electric Cooperative Association) in 1994.
After his retirement he went to work at Timbuktu Marina and as he called it T2 (Timbuktu Marine) by the golf course to keep busy, helping with docking boats, getting gas and just talking to people.
Marvin married Linda M. Tokvam on October 5, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook, They made their life in the Cook area until moving to their cabin on Hinsdale Island on Lake Vermilion in the late 80's. He was sometimes fondly called the Mayor of Hinsdale. Marvin moved to the Homestead Apartments shortly after moving his wife Linda into Martin's Home for seniors.
Marvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cook VFW Post 1757, Orr American Legion 480, Eveleth Mason Lodge #239 and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
Marvin enjoyed the outdoors and all of its activities, camping, traveling, hunting, fishing,
boating, snowmobiling, breaking ice in the spring and driving around in his car. He also did stock car racing and flying in his earlier years. Marvin enjoyed all of his family members and took time for them.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Alma Aune; brothers, Palmer and Olaf in youth, and George in Okinawa during WWII, Lawrence (2010) and Earl (2011).

Marvin is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Linda Aune; 3 children, Dawn (David) Reing of Lake Vermilion-Cook, Timothy (Eileen) Aune of Gheen and George (Dona) Aune of Hibbing; 9- grandchildren, Melissa (Sam) Grahn, Rebecca (Jason) Lappi, Shalane, Misti and Brently Aune, Chelsie and Dustin Kennedy, Martin (Diane) Miller and Virginia (James) Scates; 12 great-grandchildren, Garrett, Brittin, Emily, Collin, Bella, Dakota, Hunter, Timmy, Shaelee, Anthony, Cheyenne, and Clinton; 1 sister Carol (Virgil "Squeek") McCue of Cook; sister in-law Katie Aune of Cook; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

SERVICES: A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook. A gathering of family and friends will start at 11:00 am till the hour of service. Rev. Bruce Hannem will be the officiant. Cynthia Hannem will provide the music. Military honors will be accorded by the combined honor guards of the Cook VFW Post 1757 and Orr American Legion Post 480. Burial will be in the Cook Community Cemetery.
