Mary M. Ahlgren
We lost "our sweetheart", our confidant, our loving, ever-supportive mother, Mary M. Ahlgren, 85, of Cook, on Friday, June 3, 2016, at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She was born Mary Margaret Knickerbocker on December 7, 1930, in Cloquet, MN; the daughter of Vernon and Isabelle (Caron) Knickerbocker. She lived her childhood in Scanlon, Minnesota, graduating from high school in Cloquet. Mary married the love of her life (and his too) on August 28, 1950 in Cloquet. The couple started their married lives in Scanlon, moved to Buyck in 1959 (where Doug's family roots were), then to the Cook area in 1968, where they since resided. She was an avid golfer and "Avon Lady" until her death. Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cook and was a woman of strong religious faith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Douglas Ahlgren Sr. on August 15, 2003; a brother Vernon Knickerbocker; a great-grandson, Strauder Ahlgren, and a great-granddaughter, Nora Oldre.
Mary will be sorely missed by: her children, Valerie (Eldon) Oldre of Fort Myers, FL, Douglas (Gloria) Ahlgren of Bear River, MN, and Judy (Mike) Novak of Cook; 10 Grandchildren, Christian Ahlgren-Williams, Brian (Jamie) Heglund, Douglas (Teri) Ahlgren, Vince (Emily) Oldre, Derek Novak, Travis Ahlgren, Deidra Novak (Brian) Palmer, Ezra Ahlgren, Elizabeth Oldre (Brian) Junnila, and Eric (Lyssa) Oldre; 16 Great-Grandchildren; 1 brother, Dennis (Mary Lou) Knickerbocker of Marana, Arizona, 1 sister-in-law, Elma Knickerbocker of Cloquet; numerous nieces and nephews, along with many friends.
SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, (June 10th) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cook. Father Drew Braun will be the celebrant. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. The casket bearers will be Mary's grandchildren. St. Mary's Funeral Choir will sing, with Marjore Miller providing the accompaniment. A reception in Mary's honor will be held in the church social hall.
