Michael "Mike" Kemp, 74, of Cook, MN, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at his home.

Michael Leonard Kemp was born on June 7th, 1943 to Helvi (Kuukari) and Leonard Kemp in Virginia MN. He graduated from Virginia High School in 1961 and attended college courses until enlisting in the Army in 1964. He was honorably discharged from the Army Reserve in 1970. Mike worked for the State and various road-building contractors as a civil engineer throughout the 70s and early 80s. He formed and ran his own company until 1988, when he decided to pursue an opportunity in California and spent a number of years there. Upon his return to Minnesota in the mid-90s, he again incorporated a company and had been self-employed in the intervening years. Throughout this time, Mike enjoyed hunting, tinkering with cars, and flying small aircraft. He loved to spend time with family and friends and was a great story teller with an engaging sense of humor.

Michael is survived by two sons, Michael (Jennifer) of Cook and David (Amy) of Angora; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his girlfriend of 17 years, Lana Christian. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and his sister Elizabeth of Hayward, WI.
