Ray Eugene Kennedy, 88, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at Rainy Lake Medical Center. Ray was born on March 9, 1938, in Walhalla, North Dakota, to Albert and Evelyn (Hell) Kennedy, who preceded him in death.

Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Kennedy; his daughter, Bobbi Lutgen; his parents, Albert and Evelyn Kennedy; and his brothers, Harvey and Jack.

Ray is lovingly survived by his children, Becki (Gene) Steele, Shelly (Andy) Timmer, Randy (Tera) Kennedy, and his son-in-law, Lee Jr. Lutgen, husband of his late daughter, Bobbi. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: JoDell (Rory), Jayme (Jennessa), Kelley (Ben), Chelsea (Nick), Cody (Chanae), Donovan, David, Dane (Madi), and Allie. He was a proud Papa to his great-grandchildren: AJ, Ryker, Hayslee, Izabella, Paislee, Branson, Adalynn, RadLee, Brogen, Kazper, Kelvie, Onika, Jaxson, McKenna, Camden, Xander, and Lucas. He is also survived by his siblings Larry, James, Lorraine, Shirley, Ellen, and Iris, along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Ray spent many years as an over-the-road truck driver before working at Boise Cascade, where he retired. Even after retirement, his love for driving kept him behind the wheel as he drove truck for his brother, James. Ray had a passion for tractors, especially his beloved Cockshutt tractors, and he loved spending time with horses. Some of his happiest memories were driving his Clydesdales, Misty and Lucy. He enjoyed attending fairs, visiting friends in Canada, and proudly served on the Littlefork Fair Board for many years. Ray was hardworking, funny, friendly, and never met a stranger. He loved animals and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome.

More than anything, Ray loved being Grandpa and Papa. Whether sharing stories, lending a helping hand, or simply enjoying time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his family was the center of his world.

Anyone who knew Ray likely heard one of his favorite sayings: "Son of a Buck!" It always brought a smile and perfectly reflected his lighthearted spirit.

Ray leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, laughter, and unconditional love. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A private family burial will take place prior to the Celebration of Life. 

A Celebration of Life for Ray will be held on Monday, August 24, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Littlefork Community Building. Family and friends are warmly invited to join in honoring and celebrating Ray's life, share memories, and visit with those whose lives Ray touched. Food will be provided and family or friends are invited to bring a dish to share.
