Roger L. Woods
Roger L. Woods, 79, of Britt and Virginia, passed away at the Cook Care Center on Saturday, March 11, 2017.
He was born on August 11, 1937, in Virginia, to Manley and Jessie (Westby) Woods.He graduated from Virginia High School and lived in Virginia and Britt most of his life. He worked for the railroad before starting his career with LTV Mining where he worked until he retired.
He had a 31 year career with the Army National Guard. He was one of the first instructors for winter operations at Camp Ripley. He also participated in the winter operations exchange with Norway. He served with the Pike Sandy Britt Volunteer Fire Department. He was dedicated to the Boy Scouts and was Assistant Scout Master of Troop 129 for many years. He was active in various organizations and served on boards of many of them including Virginia and Britt Historical Societies, Sons of Norway, SOAR Board in Aurora, and the Virginia American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and anything to do with trains.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Marilyn Woods, and 1 brother, John Woods.
He is survived by sons, Eric Woods of Seattle, WA and Eron (Chimgee Haltarhuu) Woods of Mpls.; a daughter, Elana Woods of Virginia; a grandson, Tamir Bayarsihan; a brother, Gerald (Cindy) Woods of Mpls., 2 sisters, Kathy (Gary) DeBruzzi of New Brighton, MN and Susan White of Vista, CA; one surviving aunt, Jean Stickney of Virginia; care giver and best friend, Doris Seline of Britt, and numerous other extended family.
SERVICES:
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Sunday, March 19
th
, at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook, where visitation will begin at noon. Rev. Bruce Hannem will be the officiant. Military honors will be accorded. A reception in Roger's honor will be at the Cook VFW. Interment will be in the Sand Lake Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
