Ronald "Ron" Hanson passed away January 29, 2025, at age 79.  He was born on May 24, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and grew up with his siblings east of Cook on the family farm in East Little Fork. Ron graduated from Cook High School in 1963.

At a young age Ron contracted osteomyelitis in his left hip. At Gillette Children's Hospital, a very innovative doctor had a ball and shaft made at a foundry in southern Indiana. It took six months to make that part of Ron's hip joint and that was in 1955 when Ron was 10. It was ten years later that hip replacements became commonplace.  Ron never felt handicapped. His family, relatives and classmates never noticed his handicap and they included Ron in all activities. Ron rode horses, bicycles, motorcycles, flew airplanes and gliders, was an avid scuba diver and accomplished sailor. Ron started sailing in the Marshall Islands and after retirement he and Julieann sailed their 42' sailboat from the British Virgin Islands to Florida, the coasts of Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.  Ron had an illustrious career in computers and radars, spending 20+ years out of the United States in the Marshall Islands, Iran (from where they were evacuated when the Shah fell) and England and Greenland. In the United States they lived in Minnesota, New Jersey, California, New Mexico, Alaska, Massachusetts and Texas. They had a home in the British Virgin Islands, travelled to all 50 states and many foreign countries.

Ron is survived by Julieann, his wife of 56 years; siblings Richard (Kay) Hanson, Bernice Danyluk, Sandra (Jerry) Schulenburg, and Dianne Suomela; and many nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Margaurite Hanson; infant sister Linda; and brother-in-law's Brad (Sandra) Hanke and Mike (Dianne) Suomela. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare.
