Adams
Jul 14, 1928 — Dec 12, 2020
Ruby Delores Adams, 92, of Cook, MN passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020.
Ruby D. Adams (Heide) was born on July 14, 1928 to Oscar and Emma Heide (Lofthus) in Lengby, Minnesota. Ruby enjoyed a full and busy life. She moved with her folks to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, while in grade school. She graduated high school and began a position with the Michigan State Hospital for the criminally insane. There she met the love of her life, Royal k. Adams Jr. As a good-looking young man, he as surprised when she teased that he was a patient at the hospital. They married in Munising, MI on June 9, 1950 and were blessed with three children: Royal Kenneth III, Carol, and Karen. In 1958 the family moved to Oahu, HI. Royal was self-employed with the A&B Equipment Co. and Ruby was his secretary. They remained in Hawaii until 1963 when they moved to Pleasant Hill, CA (on the outskirts of San Francisco) for a year. Ruby worked as a secretary for many various organizations there until Royal was offered a management job with Spyder Staging Company in St. Louis and Ruby started a position with Washington University. Once their last child graduated, Royal and Ruby headed North to MN, hoping to purchase a resort. They owned Rockaway Beach and Resort in Boy River, MN for a few years before they wanted to do something different. It was then that they purchased the United National Real Estate franchise from Bob Wiinanen; nowadays The Human Touch gift shop is located there.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Heide and Emma (Oline) Lofthus; three brothers: Orlean (Eddie (Cook 2010) and the two brothers she never had a chance to meet: Morris Fosston (1930) and toddler Marshall (1925); her spouse, Royal Kenneth Adams Jr., passed into eternal life in 1991; and son-in-law Brian D. Griffith followed him in 2017.
Ruby is survived by her children: Royal K. Adams III (Michelle Baker) of St. Louis, MO; daughters Carol (Kenneth D. Chase) of Rochester; and daughter Karen Griffith of Cook; five grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Ruby greatly enjoyed Scrabble and enjoyed puzzles of every kind. She was always pleased to go to the Casino. She seems to have won our final Scrabble game for eternity – that's Ruby.
Per Ruby's wishes, there will be no memorial service. To leave an online condolence visit www.mlakerfuneralhome.com
