Ruth K. (Halverson) Herring
Ruth Kristin Halverson Herring, 95, of Angora, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016 in the Arola Foster Home.
She was born at home on Dec. 23, 1920 in Bear River to Hans and Hilda (Strand) Halverson, who came to this country from Norway. The youngest of six children, she grew up and attended school in Bear River. She had lived in Minneapolis, Duluth and then Chisholm for 35 years, prior to moving to the Arola Foster Home in 2013. She had worked in dry cleaning establishments and child care. Ruth had owned a cabin on Black Duck Lake which she enjoyed. She liked fishing, cooking, baking, her flower gardens and she loved dogs. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and made excellent Fattigmann and Lefsa.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Eilert Halverson, who died serving during World War II, Clarence Halverson in 1968 and Henry Halverson in 2005 and twin sisters, Hegna Rautiola Lake in 1973 and Helen Nukala in 2006.
She is survived by her niece, Grace Isaacson; foster parents, David and Janis Arola; special friends, Greg and Barb Sjogren; many great-nieces and nephews and extended family in Norway.
The family wishes to thank David and Janis Arola for their dedicated and faithful care of Ruth during her last years.
SERVICES: A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 4, 2016 in the Bear River Lutheran Church. Synod Minister Gloria Anderson-Hegg will officiate.
